THE PLACE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN SCHOOL-FAMILY COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION WITH FAMILY


The aim of this research is to determine the opinions of teachers about the place of social media in school-family cooperation and communication with family. The research was structured in the case study pattern, which is one of the qualitative research types. The data were collected from secondary schools in the Muratpaşa district of Antalya in the 2022-2023 academic year. In this research, the interview technique, which is one of the data collection techniques of the qualitative research method, was used. In this direction, interviews were conducted with 10 teachers working in various branches in public schools from the secondary school level. Content analysis and descriptive analysis methods were used in the analysis of the data obtained from the participants. As a result of the analysis of the data, it was concluded that social media has an important place in school-family cooperation and communication and has positive effects on school-family communication. In addition, it has been determined that the shared information is up-to-date, personal data is protected, shares are made within a certain plan, and that the shares, such as photos and videos, contain visual material, increase the effectiveness of social media tools used in school-family cooperation and communication with the family. Finally, it has been concluded that although social media tools have significant advantages in terms of saving time in school-family cooperation and communication with family, face-to-face communication, which is one of the traditional methods, is more effective.
