ANALYSIS OF THE SELECTION OF SMART SWITCHABLE GLASS IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WITH A MATHEMATICAL MODEL PROPOSAL: THE CASE OF BOMONTIADA

Purpose: The analysis of criteria importance levels for the selection of contemporary and sustainable smart switchable glass in repurposed industrial heritage buildings using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and determination of the most suitable and efficient criteria for glass selection in Bomontiada

Conceptual Framework: The use of the AHP method aims to facilitate decision-making in future elections and assist in making more accurate decisions by determining the importance values of criteria.

Method: The chosen method is the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is a multi-criteria decision-making method. The first step in implementing the AHP method is to define the decision problem in detail. The next step is to establish the decision hierarchy. In order to create the hierarchy based on the definition of the decision problem, the decision criteria and decision alternatives need to be specified. As stated in the title, the aim is to select a sustainable type of glass for the façade and evaluate it on the Bomontiada plot project. In this regard, the AHP method has been investigated and determined to be the most suitable method for determining the importance levels of the criteria.

Findings: In order to apply the AHP method, main criteria and sub-criteria have been determined for glass selection. The main criteria are considered in the context of sustainable development as social, environmental, economic, and overall sustainability. The sub-criteria are selected as natural environmental conditions, energy efficiency, thermal comfort, visual comfort, acoustics, security, control, cost, and implementation. The importance levels of the selected criteria have been determined and analyzed using the AHP method.

Conclusion: For Bomontiada, glass types have been individually examined according to the criteria ratings. Among the six smart switchable glass types analyzed, four common sub-criteria with the highest importance levels have emerged. These are natural environmental conditions, thermal comfort, visual comfort, and cost. Consequently, when selecting a glass type for this structure, these criteria should be taken into consideration.
