YAHYA BIN SA‘ID AND HIS NARRATION OF “INTENTION HADITH”


Since the passing of the Prophet, the preservation of hadiths and their transfer to other generations has been the main goal in the lives of the Companions and the generation after them. For this reason, the period of the Companions and the generation after them are very important for the science of hadith. The process of noting the hadiths (kitabah), writing down the hadiths (tadwin) and classification of the hadiths (tasnif) started from the first century. Saîd el-Ensârî who lived at the end of the first century of hijra and the beginning of the 2nd century and is considered as a follower (tabi‘i) and the master of the followers of the classification period. Among the reliable narrators, Yahya bin Sa‘id plays a key role in the dissemination of the well-known hadith ‘Deeds must be measured against the intentions.’ This hadith, which is narrated as fard, has been narrated by nearly 200 narrators since Yahya bin Sa‘id. Thus, it reached the mashhur hadith degree. Intention hadith has an important place both in hadith and fiqh.
