INVESTIGATION OF PRESCHOOL TEACHERS' ANDADMINISTRATORS' OPINIONS ON SCHOOL ADAPTATION WEEK IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION

The General Directorate of Basic Education of the Ministry of National Education plans one week before the opening date of schools as the adaptation week for children who will start pre-school and first grade with the school adaptation guide programme published every year. The aim of this study is to determine the views of teachers and administrators on the adaptation week process in preschool education institutions. The research was framed as a phenomenological design from qualitative research methods. The study group consisted of a total of 17 people, 7 preschool teachers and 10 school administrators working in the central districts of Antalya province. A semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used to collect the data and descriptive analysis was used to analyse the data. According to the findings of the research, it was determined that the current practices increase the level of participation, include guidance activities, include disadvantaged groups, and consist of acquaintance activities for families and children. The main problems experienced in the implementation were that the adaptation week coincided with the beginning of the year meetings and teachers did not have enough preparation time. As a result of the research, it was suggested that the orientation week should be gradually increased in hours and opened together with other schools.
