Narrative types can have similar characteristics. In folk stories, which are one of these genres, the hero archetype can be told in different cultures and geographies, but it can exhibit the same characteristics. The fact that the hero continues his life journey on a circular axis is one of the common points of folk stories. Folk stories, which are one of the intangible cultural elements, exhibit the cultural identity, common life and sense of the nation. Folk tales, which hold a mirror to the period and society, can be based on fictional reality as well as processing a lived event.
In this study, where the Crimean-Karay variant of the Shah Ismail story will be discussed, the turning points of the hero's journey are focused on. In the article, based on the monomite theory in Joseph Campbell's work “The Endless Journey of the Hero”, the process of “departure”, “coming of age” and “return” of the hero, that is, Shah Ismail, was tried to be evaluated. The evaluation of the Shah Ismail story has been examined by adding some new chapters due to the fact that it consists of different steps. In addition to the theory-based analysis covered in the study, the story was examined with titles such as the first occurrence; childlessness, the birth / education of the hero, the naming of the hero and bade October. The departure phase was evaluated with the subheadings of call to adventure, acceptance of the call and crossing the first threshold. In the story, the process of coming of age is examined as the way of exams, help and the final end. In the return study, which is the last stage of the monomite theory, the conflict with the mother / father was resolved under the titles of re-return and final end.
