“Concerto for Ney and Orchestra” holds the distinction of being the first concerto composed for ney and orchestra in Turkish music. Consisting of three movements, each part of the work builds a bridge between Eastern and Western art music by utilizing traditional melodies and forms. The first movement is based on a theme constructed upon Dede Efendi’s “Ferahfeza” scale, the second movement is founded on the folk song “Naz Barı”, and the third movement takes inspiration from the Azerbaijani folk dance “Elmas”. In the piece, the harmonious integration of the ney instrument with the orchestra has enhanced musical diversity and cultural richness. The analysis concluded that the composer successfully fused elements of traditional Turkish and Azerbaijani music with Western music's harmony and form. This work presents an important example of how traditional music can be used harmoniously with modern musical forms. In conclusion, Ilyas Mirzayev’s concerto makes a significant contribution to the music literature with its innovative approach that brings together the aesthetic values of Eastern and Western art music.
