EXAMINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONAL SILENCE AND SCHOOL CLIMATE

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the perceptions of organizational silence and school climate of teachers working in secondary education institutions. A quantitative research method was employed in this study. The study aimed to reveal the relationship between teachers' perceptions of school climate and their levels of organizational silence, and to this end, a relational screening model was used. The study group of the research consisted of 414 teachers working in secondary education institutions in the districts of Pendik, Tuzla, and Kartal in Istanbul. Participants were reached using a convenience sampling method. The data collection process was carried out using a three-stage instrument. The first section included the "Personal Information Form," developed by the researcher to gather demographic information of the teachers (gender, age, marital status, years of professional experience, and subject specialization). The second section included the "School Climate Scale," developed by Hoy and Tarter (1997) and adapted into Turkish by Yılmaz and Demir (2013). The third section included the "Organizational Silence Scale," developed by Kahveci and Demirtaş (2016). This structure ensured that the research was conducted in a systematic and comprehensive manner. To answer the research questions, regression and correlation analyses were employed. As a result of the study, it was found that the average levels of organizational silence of teachers in secondary education institutions were at a moderate level, while their perceptions of school climate were at a low level. A significant relationship between organizational silence and school climate was identified. An increase in the perceived value of school climate was found to raise the levels of organizational silence. It was concluded that school climate predicts organizational silence.
