THE MEDIATING ROLE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING IN THE EFFECT OF TRUST IN GOD ON BELIEF IN A JUST WORLD

The study was designed to the mediating role of psychological well-being in the effect of trust in God on belief in a just world. It was hypothesized that belief in a just world among young adults is associated with trust in God and psychological well-being. The participants were 393 young adults between the ages from18 to 20, who were selected through purposive sampling among the graduates of İmam-Hatip (Religious) high schools. A quantitative, correlational survey model was used in this study. Data were analyzed using quantitative data analysis techniques. In mediation tests based on the effect of trust in God on belief in a just world, psychological well-being was determined to play an indirect mediating role. In the prediction tests, it was determined that the standardized regression coefficient from personal belief in a just world to psychological well-being was 0.44, and the standardized regression coefficient from trust in God to psychological well-being was 0.16. Both coefficients were found to be statistically significant. It was concluded that personal belief in a just world plays a very important role in protecting the psychological health of young adults. The results were related to the general trend regarding belief in a just world and the developmental stages of the participants.
