SOME VERSES AND CONCEPTS ASSOCIATED WITH HAZRAT ALİ IN QUMMÎ TAFSIR

The Holy Quran is a divine guide to life that includes the happiness of Muslims in particular and of all humanity in general, in this world and the hereafter. During the political and intellectual differences that occurred among Muslims, everyone tried to base their rightness and truth on the Quran. Followers of the Shia sect also tried to prove the truth of the principle of faith in imamate with the Quran. In this study, we will try to discuss the verses and concepts presented by the Shiite commentator Qummī (d.329/941) as evidence for Hazrat Ali and his imamate. First of all, after giving the dictionary meaning of the relevant word or concept, we will examine Kummi's views on this subject and try to compare them on the basis of the evaluations of different commentators. At the end of the relevant section, we will try to express our opinions on the subject with a general evaluation.

While Kummi sometimes presents the entire verse in question as evidence for his own sectarian thesis, sometimes it is seen that he interprets a word or concept in the verse on the axis of sectarian thought, independently of the whole. It is noteworthy that these verses or words, with which the author tries to build his sectarian theses, are ambiguous and allegorical. It is understood that the author tried to put forward the sectarian theses through the controversial words. The meaning that Qummī attributed to the verse or concept was often not accepted by Shiite authors. This style of approach of Kummî sometimes reached the extent of distorting the verses of the Quran. For example, Qummî interprets the concept of "religion" mentioned in the 9th verse of the Infitar sura as the Prophet and Hazrat Ali. Kummi caused the Qur'an to limit its universal call to all humanity to people belonging to the Shia sect. It is possible to say that this understanding is the result of considering the sect as a religion. This style of approach resulted in adapting the divine revelation to one's own thinking rather than following the divine revelation.
